Project Location: Haywards Heath, Sussex

The Brief

The aim was to rework the ground floor into a more open and usable layout for family life. The existing rear of the house was fragmented and inefficient, with a series of small, disconnected rooms and varying floor levels.

We were asked to transform this into a cohesive, open-plan space that feels connected and easy to move through, while carefully addressing the changes in level, all within a tight budget.

Our Proposal

We responded with a clean, contemporary extension, a simple white rendered form that brings clarity to the rear of the house.

Rather than removing the level changes, we used them to define distinct zones within the open-plan layout. Moving between the kitchen, dining area, and garden becomes a natural progression, creating a subtle sense of journey through the space.

A large, centrally positioned skylight draws daylight deep into the plan, enhancing the feeling of openness and improving the quality of the internal environment throughout the day.
